My Journey with Kenny

IGNITING THE MUSE WITH KENNY WAS ALWAYS A CREATIVE EXPERIENCE
Working with Kenny was one of the great highlights of Arlene’s life. After leaving the “executive turntable” of Columbia/ Portrait records, she was called by Larry Larson, Kenny’s manager at the time, and it was a “turning point” for her. She joined Kenny at a rehearsal for one of his tours, and never left!
She and Kenny are like kindred souls, and it was a great joy, creative journey and always inspiring to spend time with him. She wore many hats and covered everything from Production on his albums, the crowning glory being “Leap of Faith, to treasure hunts like finding an old record that was hidden deep in the eithers! Having had an extensive A&R and studio background with writers, singers, producers, and musicians, Arlene was a perfect fit to work together with Kenny. If he needed a gospel singer, she knew the best! A great guitar player/singer…done. In fact, Guy Thomas (one of her favorite collaborators to write with) got the gig and spent many years touring with Kenny and writing some great songs with him.
Kenny’s generous and loving spirit was an endless gift to so many people who needed help, and she had the great honor to work alongside him putting these concert events together. The two that jump out the most are working on Christmas Unity (that started out as toys for tots) and then blossomed into the Unity Store, which aided so many people in desperate need of a helping hand. They would put on big concerts every year up in Santa Barbara and gather the best musicians on the planet to play great “vintage” songs…Everyone from Michael McDonald to Michael Bolton and so many more great Artists and musicians joined them. The other ongoing event is the Children’s Miracle Network. Kenny was most definitely one of their guardian angels for children.
One of the most inspiring gifts that Kenny gave Arlene was an “up close” and personal look at his craft of songwriting, which opened the door for her to have faith in herself as a songwriter. She will thank him forever for that. Arlene was fortunate enough to write a few songs with Kenny and David Foster, one being “No Tomorrow” that was the End Title for a feature film called Fresh Horses. From Kenny’s amazing voice to his soulful spirit and heartfelt lyrics, she learned from the Master…She was a lucky girl. To this day, they remain friends always sharing their creative muse!
