A SONG IS MUSIC IN SEARCH OF A WORD
From the moment Arlene dropped the needle on the Vinyl as a young girl, it was love at first listen. Spending hours memorizing every lyric and singing along, it was heaven for her. Little did she know that waiting in the wings of her future was her dream job in A&R and that led her to something she always loved, songwriting. Having a knack for writing in many forms, songwriting was a perfect place for that talent.
Working closely with so many successful Artist. producers and musicians from her A&R days, she was able to start “collaborating” with some of them and her songwriting journey excelled. Having one of her first “placements” with the incredibly successful band EARTH WIND & FIRE, co-written with Howard McCrary & Maurice White called “In Time” (on their Faces album), doors started opening.
Time moved forward and it led her to co-writing many songs for the Television show FAME (from the mid-80s) with two fantastic musicians/producers, Bennet Salvay & Guy Thomas, whom she continues to write with all through the years, and, as she says, they are two of her favorite collaborators, not to mention awesome humans! She and Guy have written so many songs it’s hard to keep track of them all, but they had a blast writing a song for HELLO KITTY ( CD called “Hello Kitty, Hello World” song “Sweeter than Sweet”). Film and Television became an open door and opportunity knocked again. Arlene Co-wrote the Opening & End Title for several projects. First, The Flamingo Kid (Gary Marshal/Director) she co-wrote an Opening & End title “Breakaway”; Fresh Horses- co-wrote the End Title “No Tomorrow” with Kenny Loggins & David Foster”; First Kid co-wrote & co-produced the end Title “We Got It Goin’ On”, and many more. These are just a few examples.
From these collaborations, the Alethea Music Catalog was born. It’s a rich treasure of some wonderful artist/songwriters and a perfect place for Film & TV. Go to: www.aletheamusic.com to check it out.
Being a huge lover of Rock & Roll and melody, she had (and continues to have) the immense pleasure of writing with Anders Rydholm for the rock band, GRAND ILLUSION and co-wrote two entire records with Anders “Brand New World” & “Prince of Papers”. In 2021 she co-wrote songs for an Artist Anders produces named LARS, a favorite, “Wild & Free”.
A favorite collaboration was with the late, brilliant Paul Buckmaster (who was truly the key to Elton John’s success in his early career with many of Paul’s beautiful orchestrations’ such as “Your Song”, “60 Years On” and he worked with hundreds of successful Artists. We worked with a wonderful International Indie Artist, Noa Dori.
With a strong body of songs, she developed her own catalog, many she has co-written and sometimes co-produced with some very gifted Indie Artists.
With her love of discovering talent, she had the great joy of finding and co-writing with some incredible Indie Artists like Tracy Bartell, Hadas Shalev (Levy), who she got a deal for on Sony/Columbia Records. Michaela Paige, Noa Dori, and is currently collaborating with the amazing international artist AIYM (with the brilliant Producer/Songwriter/Musician Dean Dichoso.
